PORTALS OPEN
THEATER PRODUCTION
Portals Open (Stage Play), written by Tasleem Jamila, uses Hip-Hop, spoken word, sacred movement, technology, and sound therapy to explore what it is like to overcome depression. Yasmeen always knew her chaotic family had many unhealed generational traumas that were not being addressed. She lives with her grandmother on the south side of Chicago who always speaks of their ancestors. Her connection to higher dimensions leads her to tap into and remember everything her Grandma Lena taught her after she passes away. She is a reminder to her mother as they struggle, fight, heal and journey together to their rich African culture, history, and spiritual path.
