Family Healing for the Heart and Soul

Updated: Nov 25, 2022

Gratefulness is a key to giving thanks to God for every aspect of our lives. Family is so important to feed the soul with happiness. When you are happy, you are healthy and free to create, activate and act in joy and productivity.

I spent the past weekend in my home city Chicago. Chicago gives me a unique spiritual boost that elevates me every time.

God allowed me to ascend in Chicago on this physical realm and so much of how and who I am in this structure is from my first physical environment.

My mother is 83 years new. When you complete more cycles around the sun, you are at a new age, never to go back to the old. If you have loving family blood or spirit, thank Allah for this gift!

Here is a great recipe that my sister created that was healthy and delicious at our family gathering.

Pecan Apple Mixed Greens Salad

Ingredients:

  • 6 cups mixed greens

  • 3 Apples, thinly sliced

  • 2 cups shaved brussels sprouts

  • ½ cup vegan or regular feta

  • â…“ cup dried cranberries

  • ¾ cup raw, unsalted pepitas

  • ¾ cup raw pecan pieces

  • ¼ cup maple syrup

  • 2 teaspoons olive oil

  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh thyme

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

If you want to make your own Dressing: (optional) (Or buy an organic balsamic vinaigrette)

  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • ½ teaspoon pepper

  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1/4 cup olive oil

  • 1 1/2 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

  • 1 tablespoon dijon mustard

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 275ËšF and line a small baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a small bowl, whisk together maple syrup, olive oil, thyme, salt and pepper. Stir in the pecans and pumpkin seeds until well coated. 3. Spread into an even layer onto a baking sheet. Bake for 35 minutes, rotating the pan halfway through baking.

  3. Remove from the oven and let the brittle cool completely before breaking into bite-sized pieces.

  4. Brussels sprouts: you can either purchase pre-shredded brussels sprouts, or if you have a food processor with a shredder attachment, use that to shred them thinly.

  5. Whisk together all dressing ingredients until well incorporated. Assemble salad with greens, brussels sprouts, dried cranberries, apple slices, feta, brittle and dressing. Enjoy!
